The Care Inspectorate have reviewed and updated the quality framework for children and young people in need of care and protection.

The guidance document ‘A quality framework for children and young people in need of care and protection’ (revised August 2019) provides a quality improvement framework for community planning partnerships to support self-evaluation of services for children and young people in need of care and protection and is designed to lead to improvement in services.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the action that organisations take to protect children and vulnerable or protected adults (vulnerable beneficiaries) from harm including emotional, physical, sexual, neglect or financial harm. Charities working with vulnerable beneficiaries must do all they can to keep them safe and protected from harm ensuring appropriate policies, practices and procedures are in place and adhered to.

The Highland Child Protection Committee’s ‘Child Protection Toolkit‘ is an invaluable resource for third sector organisations and community groups in Highland.

Some of the topics covered in the toolkit include:

• Recruitment of Staff and Volunteers
• Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Act 2007
• Transporting children and young people
• Photographing, videoing and filming
• Dealing with a Child Protection Situation
• A sample Child Protection Policy
