Welcome to Care and Learning Alliance

Care and Learning Alliance (CALA) is the largest third sector early learning and childcare organisation serving Highland and Moray. Through partnership working with local authorities, social enterprises and other third sector organisations, CALA promotes a culture of ‘getting it right for every child’ (GIRFEC), helping to make Scotland the #bestplacetogrowup.

CALA Conference 2017

This year the Care and Learning Alliance (CALA) conference will look at ‘Workforce Development’. Given the on-going expansion of early learning and childcare this is a highly topical subject and we hope to inform delegates about the relevance of this for their work with children and young people.

The conference will take place on the 28th September 2017. Save the date!

For more information, take a look at our conference 2017 page.

CALA E-Learning Zone

We have made some big changes to the CALA E-Learning Zone. We have worked hard to make everything more user friendly and easier to navigate. There are 7 courses currently live, with more planned soon. Click here to be taken to the CALA E-Learning Zone. Our ‘Children Affected by Parental Substance‘ misuse module is FREE, so you’ve got nothing to lose by giving it a shot.

Keeping Children Safe

Keeping Children Safe provides a service to those working within the third sector (and others). The aim of KCS is to reduce the incidence of harm to children and young people by providing high quality, accessible child protection training and information to voluntary and community organisations (e.g. sports and youth groups) and to early learning and childcare centres. To learn more, click here to be taken to the Keeping Children Safe section.

National Care Standards Review

The Care Inspectorate and Healthcare Improvement Scotland are currently in the process of developing Scotland’s new National Care Standards, which will have an impact on the way care is delivered in Scotland. To stay up-to-date with the progress of the review, please visit our Care Inspectorate page.

Free Early Learning and Childcare

Did you know some two year olds are entitled to 600 hours of Early Learning and Childcare? We want to make sure, through our membership networks, that all parents are aware of this. Find out more.

What groups say about our Membership Support

Our local officer has been fantastic in the support and advice that she has provided. Always keeps us up to date with what is going on and sends info on useful websites, forthcoming training opportunities etc.

What attendees say about our training

It was an excellent journey with lots of learning opportunities.

It has made me a more confident key worker. I feel I know what I am talking about with child’s development.

What users say about our blog

Great for grannies too. What fun they are all having! The blog is an excellent way of opening up the nursery.

Great ideas! Thanks for the inspiration!

What members say about our Parent Toddler Support

Without CALA we wouldn’t be able to operate. We’ve gone from a group whose numbers were so low, feasibility of continuing was being questioned, to a group that is buzzing and big.
