Junior World Update

The ongoing commitment to providing a natural habitat for nature and the children’s sustained interest in gardening continues to provide a range of exciting learning experiences for children of all ages. The children have had the opportunity to watch things grow and try our grown vegetables & salads. Our wildflower gardens have brought an abundance of colour and beasties for the children to investigate and explore.

Finally following our recent success in an Eco-Schools Prize Draw and the addition of your successful fundraising the children are thoroughly enjoying a range of natural resources purchased from Muddy Faces.

The staff and children at Junior World reflect on this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme

In recognition of Mental Health Week, the children of Junior World were discussing this year’s theme of ‘Body Image’. They used the opportunity to reflect and think about how they feel about their own bodies and expressed their thoughts and ideas creatively through drawings.

“I’m happy with my image although if someone is watching I am a bit shy”

“When I look in the mirror, I am very happy with the way I look”

“I am fast, skilled, athletic and sporty”

“I really love my hair and my smile”

Junior World team up with TerraCycle to help reduce plastic waste from bread bags and crisp packets

The following blog update comes from Jayne Macintosh at Junior World in Nairn:

Joining up with Terracycle at the end of last year we have been increasing our awareness of recycling and everyone has been participating with the Walkers Crisp Packet Initiative and we have so far collected over 1000 crisp packets.

Last week we were the first registered collection point in the Highlands for “bread bags” a new initiative set up by Hovis. We have joined forces with the local Co-op stores in Nairn, who have agreed to be collection points and we are excited to be organising recycling advisory afternoons at the local Co-op stores in the very near future.

All recycled produce will be sent to TerraCycle where eventually they will be transformed into benches, watering cans etc.
