What we do
Sutherland Stepping Stones offers ELC for children aged birth to 16 Years. We provide funded ELC spaces for eligible 2, 3 and 4-year-olds.

Our vision and aims
Our Vision:
- To provide high-quality Early Learning Childcare (ELC) and a secure foundation in an encouraging nurturing environment, where there are equal opportunities and support for all. Where staff, parents, carers and children work in partnership.
Our Aims:
- We will use Self – Evaluation to identify priorities that focus on improving outcomes for children using “How good is our Early Learning and Childcare” as a benchmark for good practice.
- As individuals and as a team we will reflect critically on our work and will be proactive in extending and deepening our knowledge and understanding of early learning pedagogy through research, current literature and policy, making good use of current guidance “My world Outdoors” “My creative Journey” “Gender equal Play” “Curriculum for Excellence” “Building the Ambition” and “Pre Birth to Three”
- We will work closely with parents, carers, partners and the wider community to ensure the highest possible standards for all children. Continuing our intergeneration work with Seaforth House and making good use of local amenities such as beach, local high school facilities, Astro park etc.
- We will strongly promote equality and challenge any forms of discrimination. Following the SSSC codes of practice to ensure that all service users rights are protected.
- We will provide a high-quality curriculum framework for children, that is very well matched to their individual ages and stages of development.
- We will make sure that our curriculum framework is based firmly on the play and active learning is stimulating and offers children challenge and enjoyment.
- We will use SHANARRI wellbeing indicators to promote, support and safeguard children’s and young people’s wellbeing.
- We will ensure the ethos and culture of our setting demonstrates a strong commitment to “Children’s Rights” ensuring that all children feel valued, safe, and secure. Embedding the “UNCRC” and the “Health and Social Care Standards” into daily practice.
- We will carefully support children and families to make successful transitions when they first start and when they move to another stage of learning in a new setting.
- We will use innovative approaches to encourage children to be inquisitive, imaginative and to take risks in their learning, using open-ended natural play materials to extend their creativity.
