National Care Standards are changing – CALA forums update

Thanks to both Tracy and Mary from the Care Inspectorate team for coming along to our  CALA Members Forum on Tuesday, 2nd September in Inshes Church, Inverness.  Also thanks to the 16 participants who gave us their views on the current National Care Standards, or the ‘Red Book’ as they are affectionately known. Interestingly, some members felt the new standards should keep a similar format; their advice was ‘keep it nice and simple’.

We also had a discussion around the 600 hours offered to some two year olds, starting in October this year. The Care Inspectorate team are keen to see childminders embracing this expansion as a service provider.

Groups and centres need to review their registration certificate for admission of two year olds. Does your certificate say you can accept children who are aged two years six months?  If so, you need to consider getting this changed to reflect from the age of two years of age.

I’m looking forward to speaking to our CALA members in Caithness (Wick, Monday 15th September, see poster below) and Moray (date & venue to be confirmed) on these same topics. I will then be in a position to put a formal response on behalf of CALA and our members by 17th September, which is the closing date for the consultation.

Kind regards to you all

Valerie Gale, CALA Chief Executive
