Mentoring training with Care and Learning Alliance
Fourteen members of CALA’s core staff team took part in a day’s mentoring training yesterday (15th June 2015) at Moray Firth Training in Inverness.
‘Building a Mentoring Culture’, delivered by Morag Kerr of Interchange, was a mixture of presentation, role play and open and group discussion. Morag helped us to understand the mentoring process, the roles of a mentor and mentee, and the key to successful mentoring frameworks. Several participants had previously undertaken mentoring or had been mentees themselves, which led to lively discussion and group work.
Many ingredients of the mentoring framework (nurturing, encouraging, supporting, listening) are already included in CALA’s established use of Support and Supervision (S&S) for every member of staff and it was very useful to discuss how this could be further improved by creating a complementary mentoring programme.
With Morag’s help, we decided to take forward a mentoring pilot scheme which we hope will be of benefit to existing and new staff, as well as CALA members.
