Healthy Beginnings at Kilmallie Toddlers

Care and Learning Alliance’s Healthy Beginnings project supports and helps parents and carers with practical budgeting, shopping and cooking skills. We’re also advising on breastfeeding and weaning, to encourage healthy eating, and we’re having great fun trying out simple recipes at Toddler Groups.

Kilmallie Parent and Toddler Group recently enjoyed taking part in the next stage of the  Healthy Beginnings project. Assisted by their parents and carers the children had great fun making their very own fruit kebabs and silly sandwiches.

There was lots of laughter with some of the funny faces the children made on their sandwiches but it was great to see that all the faces made were smiling and happy!

The parents were really impressed that the children sat for so long and took such care over their masterpieces before devouring them all.

Making the fruit kebabs was a great hit and using the straws made it really easy for the children to take part and with a wee bit of encouragement try some new fruits.

All the parents agreed the Eat Well Snack Mat made it really easy to see the food groups and help with portion sizes.

So much so, they have placed a copy on their noticeboard!
