CALA Conference 2015 – have you booked?
IT’s a Fact of Life: Growing up in a Digital World
Tuesday 29th Sept, Greyfriars Free Church, Inverness
With just over three weeks to go, the conference team are busy with the final arrangements for the day. Our theme is a really hot topic and we’re hoping all our delegates will go away better informed on the opportunities for learning that technology can offer, as well being more aware of how to keep everyone safe in a digital world.
To help us achieve that we’ve got two great keynotes – Sue Palmer and Dr Christine Stephen and we’re really excited to have both speakers at our event this year.
Sue Palmer is a freelance literacy specialist, writer, presenter, childhood campaigner, and author of Toxic Childhood. In her talk – Life’s a game – How will U play next? – she’ll be looking at the effects of the normalisation of virtual play for pre-school children and she’ll be suggesting ways parents and carers mitigate the effects of screen-based culture.
Dr Christine Stephen is a Research Fellow in the School of Education, University of Stirling. In her talk she will draw on recent research to consider the role that new technologies play in the lives of young children at home and the challenges and opportunities that they present for learning and development in early years settings.
- Clips & tips on Internet Safety – Eliz MacIntosh, Education Child Protection Officer
- Technology in the Early Years Classroom – John McGill, ComputerXplorers
- A Good Night’s Sleep – Mairi MacArthur, Practice Lead (Health and Disability)
- I-spy Outdoors – Suzann Barr (Abriachan) & Saranne Bish (Countryside Ranger)
