CALA Family Support Project Coordinator Mairianne Nairn has been helping deliver 13 weekly hour-long sessions peep sessions with fathers inside HMP Prison Inverness.
At the request of the Prison Governor, this is now the third time the programme has run.
The following quotes come from the father’s who took part in the programme:
“Peep’s had a massive impact on me and my family – without it, I wouldn’t have had that opportunity to bond with my baby.”
“I’ve really enjoyed the course, it’s made me feel more confident in being a first-time dad and I have discovered lots of activities me and my son can do together.”
“It’s helped me exist, I feel more like a father. Even getting to stand up with my daughter makes a huge difference, in a normal visit session we can’t get off our seats.”
The following blog post comes from the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. They have released a cybersecurity guide, full of information on keeping you safe online. Although it is aimed at third sector organisations, it contains valuable information for individuals too.
For Cyber Scotland Week 2019, ACOSVO have partnered with SCVO and the Scottish Government to promote Cyber-Security across the third sector and to develop our new “Protect Your Network” guide.
Download the guide by clicking here.
We hope you’ll be able to use the guide with your staff and board teams to improve cyber-security within your organisation. You don’t need to be a cyber expert to understand it, and it has simple actions that should only take a few minutes each to put into practice.
Please think of the guide as a starting point; there is plenty of detailed information available on the National Cyber Security Centre’s website (including their easy-to-understand Small Charity Guide); and don’t forget to check #CyberScotWeek19 on twitter for tips and advice from a whole host of organisations.
Register your place by filling out our online booking form: https://careandlearning.typeform.com/to/nSVHPn or telephone Rebecca on 01349 866749.
The following information comes from the Highland Literacy Blog:
Speech and Language Therapists across Highland work in collaboration with practitioners in Early Learning and Childcare settings and schools to support adult/ child interactions through the Words Up Early and Words Up Primary Key Messages.
Last session, working with Early Learning and Childcare practitioners in Scottish Attainment Challenge schools, Speech and Language Therapy Assistants supported adult/ child interaction through ongoing coaching, modelling and evaluation.
The report below details the impact of the collaboration on supporting children’s language and communication, a key predictor of children’s later attainment and achievement. As schools consider their Pupil Equity Fund interventions, they may wish to consider the partnership with our local speech and language therapy team in supporting children’s speech, language and communication.

The following blog update comes from Jayne Macintosh at Junior World in Nairn:
Joining up with Terracycle at the end of last year we have been increasing our awareness of recycling and everyone has been participating with the Walkers Crisp Packet Initiative and we have so far collected over 1000 crisp packets.
Last week we were the first registered collection point in the Highlands for “bread bags” a new initiative set up by Hovis. We have joined forces with the local Co-op stores in Nairn, who have agreed to be collection points and we are excited to be organising recycling advisory afternoons at the local Co-op stores in the very near future.
All recycled produce will be sent to TerraCycle where eventually they will be transformed into benches, watering cans etc.
