Celebrating Breastfeeding Awareness Week

CALA Toddler Group Facilitator Fiona has been in touch to let us know about the various events that took place in the Highlands in celebration of Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Fiona explains more:

I recently joined the Infant Feeding Group in Alness for a picnic at Noah’s Ark Play Café.  Lots of families came along and joined in the fun. As well as my playdough and bubble cups, there was lots of information available from Childsmile, The Nappy Network and the NHS Infant Feeding Support Worker.

The children all had a great afternoon and we were very lucky with the weather.  The Alness Infant Feeding Group meets on the last Wednesday of the month in the Perrins Centre from 11.45-12.45 and is open to all families.

From June 20th -26th there were lots of events running throughout Highland to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Week.

Portree Family First Mother and Baby Group visit a fire station

The Portree Family First Mother and baby group celebrated ‘Child Accident Prevention Trust’ (CAPT) Child safety week with a visit to the local Fire Station on Wed 8th June. Here’s CALA Family First Co-ordinator Shirley to explain more:

Great fun had by all. We had a tour of the fire station and tried on the very heavy helmets. We were then able to sit and drive the engine, have fun with sirens and lights before getting to play with the

Mums, dads, babies and toddlers all had a great morning in the sunshine and have all asked for another trip next year. Thank you to our kind firemen for making it such fun, and they offered all parents a free home safety check as part of our visit. ‘

It Takes Two!

Hanna (CALA Parent and Toddler Group Facilitator) has been in touch to let us know how they’re getting on with their ‘Multiples and Twins Group’. Here is Hanna to explain more:

The Inverness Multiples and Twins Group have moved premises and we had our first session at Culduthel Christian Centre on Saturday 4th June! It was so much fun! Maybe you saw a picture of us all having fun in the paper?

It was a lovely day so we took advantage of the play room’s adjacent garden and some of us got very messy with the shaving foam out there while some just had great fun playing with all the outdoor toys and bubbles! (photos of messy play) There was a great craft activity ‘building bugs’ indoors as well as lots of different toys and games suitable for all ages! There are plenty of facilities also for even the tiniest of babies…

So if you are reading this and have or are expecting twins/triplets/quadruplets etc… please come along to our next session on the 2nd July! The group is run by the lovely Kirsteen and Joanne on the first Saturday of the month, starts at 10.30am and runs till 12noon. There is a healthy snack and teas/coffees provided and lots of fun to be had!
