EARLY YEARS SENIOR PLAYWORKER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose: To work as an effective member of the pre-school team leading the delivery of a flexible, high quality education and care service that meets the needs of young children and their families.
Accountability: -
1. Be responsible for the day to day running of the play session in accordance with the policies, quality assurance guidelines and Code of Practice adopted by CALA.
2. Within the Group, develop curriculum plans appropriate to the needs of the children on an individual basis and in line with recognised standards and learning outcomes that includes working through the medium of play to:
• Maintain a child orientated environment
• Promote the physical development of the children
• Promote the social and emotional development of the children
• Promote positive management of children’s behaviour
• Promote the children’s sensory and intellectual development
• Promote the development of children’s language and communication skills
3. Plan, implement and evaluate activities and experiences to promote children’s learning and development.
4. Monitor and evaluate progress of individual children’s development against
planned strategies.
5. Maintain a safe environment for the children, ensuring that all equipment and
resources are well cared for and stored properly.
6. Encourage children in their development of good personal hygiene eg toileting and hand washing.
7. Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers regularly throughout the working week and be available for parent ‘Induction’ and parent and staff consultative meeting including reporting back to parents on their children’s progress.
8. Be responsible for the support and supervision of the Assistant Playworker
and develop strong team work through the Group’s working practices.
9. Develop close liaison with agencies such as Health Visitors, Nursery Cluster
Teachers, Library staff.
10. Meet formally with your Line Manager for support and supervision at regular
intervals.
11. Meet annually with your Line Manager for formal staff review and mutually
agree a Training Plan for the year ahead.
12. Attend relevant training as requested by CALA and keep up to date with
current methods and examples of good practice.
13. Make use of ‘In Service’ days for relevant work as agreed by your Line
Manager.
This Job Description will be reviewed annually.
