Family Support

Family First

'Family First exists to provide a support and befriending service to families with a child under the age of four in rural Highland.'

Family First in the Community

Family First offers a support service to families with at least one child under 4 years of age.

This support is offered in the following ways:

  • Through a flexible home visiting service which is tailored to the needs of individual families.
  • Facilitating groups which offer parents the opportunity to share ideas and attend workshops on issues identified by those attending.

Families can apply for this service by contacting the local Co-ordinator or talking to their health visitor or other professional.   It is always the family's choice whether or not to accept this service.

Family First also offers parents of all ages and backgrounds an opportunity to share their experience and skills with other parents by becoming volunteers for the organisation.

Families in Focus

Families in Focus run and support groups for families with at least one child under the age of four in the West Highland area. The groups offer parents the opportunity to share ideas and attend workshops on issues identified by those attending and to discuss any concerns they may have with the coordinator - as well as the chance for a cup of coffee and a chat whilst the children play.

Individual family support is offered through Family Support Workers following a request for assistance often by a Health Visitor or other statutory agency. Self referrals can also be made and will be assessed according to need.
